New thatch for the old cottage

Here's a closer pic....showing the way the thatch is tied in at the roof apex and the attractive finishing design. Even the porch has a warm roof!!

It did have an Owl and black Pussycat on the old roof.....so hopefully, they'll replace them....:o)

The reeds for thatching have traditionally always come from Norfolk but it seems that they can now import them cheaper from Poland :o(
I believe it costs something like £30.000 to do it depending on the size . !

We have a lovely old cottage up the road called Rose Cottage.... which has had a new thatch put on it is the oldest cottage in our village..........

They are lovely aren't they Hollyeves.......just looking at them feels peaceful and timeless.....not like the pace today.....:o(

I was lucky enough to have a look around it inside as its up for sale and my sister thought of buying it.... but it was to small.. it was lovely inside and had a very peaceful feel about it... it also has a lovely cottage garden.....

That's a shame, would be dark I bet in the Winter months, I'd like one that looked like this at the front then the back a wonderful kichen/conservatory with floor to roof glass (tastefully done of course) LOL .......dream on Janey!

what a lovely cottage, and so interesting to see the thatching work in progress. I'd love a cottage like this! Was interested to read about you having lived in Spain etc.

I do so love Thatched Cottages and this one is brilliant,and we always look out on the top to see if there are any mice or birds that the craftsman attach to the top...
