Hundreds of pigeons in the fields so what makes the odd woody decide to use your garden as a daily stop without telling his mates.

Had one woody visit me for a whole year. The poor thing use to always hang with it head leaning to the right. After about two months it started to visit with a mate. Then I brought a camera with a stronger zoom.
I took a photo of the woody's leaning head and could see that it's right eye was missing. It looked like a air rifle slug pellet embedded into the eye. It was well into the breeding season and I knew this was a female woody. I know that it could have been in pain but I thought if it was put out of it's misery but reasoned that there could be a couple of squabs in the nest. Kill her and two squabs starve to death. I have not seen her or her mate of late so perhaps she is out of her misery.
