Sarracenia (Pitcher Plant) seedling

This picture if for those of you who took an interest in my blog on growing sarracenias from seed. This little seedling is a couple of weeks old and you can clearly see the 'pitcher' growing up from inbetween the more conventional seed leaves. So exciting! I can see another seed just starting to produce a minute green shoot. This is Sarracenia leucophylla (the Whitetop Pitcher).

Exciting, Sid! I just killed my pitcher plant :( This was the second try...not ment to be, the pitcher plant and me.

Oh dear, Tastey! I wonder what's gone wrong? These are bog plants and require low-nutrient levels and they are lime-intolerant. I've got mine in a 50:50 peat to sharp sand mix (topdressed with spagnum moss). The pots sit in trays of rainwater - you have to use rainwater or distilled water coz tap water contains contaminates such as lime. My garden is too dry to plant them out unfortunately....
