Tonight is special as it will be the only one in my life time as we can see the most spectacular super moon since 1948 it will light up the sky, appearing 14 per cent bigger and 30 per cent brighter than usual.

This event is described as “undeniably beautiful” by American space agency Nasa

At 11.23am UK time, the gap between the Earth and the moon will close to its shortest point, known as “perigee” – a distance of 221,525 miles (356,510 km).

The best time to view it in the UK will be when the sun is setting in the late afternoon. The closer to the horizon it is, the bigger it will appear. On top of the moon’s bigger than usual size, they will then be treated to an additional “low-hanging moon” effect. This is an optical illusion caused by the moon being close to the horizon, where it can be measured against familiar objects such as trees and houses.

The next one will be 25th November 2034 so enjoy your moonlit garden tonight

Thanks Denise. It's cloudy at the moment (as we were warned it might be), but luckily we saw last night's moon . . . and it was enormous! And the garden was moonlit too, until the early hours. It will be a wonder for those lucky enough to see it . . . many thanks for the information :)

I did see last night it look bigger just as it went dark but looked normal size a hour later, oh well only another 20 odd years to wait for the next one !!!

We were lucky - the clouds cleared at about 6 pm here, and yes, the huge moon was a lovely sight.

saw plenty of cloud, does that count?

Saw it early evening on the 13th but then the clouds came down as well as the rain, I personally didn't think it looked any different, last night it was once again cloudy and raining again, no chance whatsoever, bitter disappointment, at nearly 70yrs old I figured that was it for any special moon appearance, however, when I went into the garden for Brynner's last wander before bed there it was in all its splendour, back indoors for my camera obviously and yes I did get some pics, gone midnight on a very wet November day and I was sat on my patio taking photo's, now that is definitely Moon Madness...

I saw the moon around 7pm and, to my surprise, it looked smaller than usual. Later there was too much cloud and it was hardly visible. Shame I would have liked to see it.

It's the same with the August meteor shower. I have never seen it and would love to but either there is too much cloud or I go to bed before it starts. Two years ago I persuaded Him Indoors to accompany me to the local park down the road where there are almost no street lights. We were going to wait for the shower. Three old fogeys (we took the dog too) hung around, sitting on benches for about an hour and what did we see? Only a few shooting stars, about five I think. By this time we were fed up so we went home to bed.
Maybe next year.
