Galanthus 'Elizabeth Harrison'

Following on from bjs’s report (16 Feb) on the record breaking price snowdrop I thought that you might like to see a picture of it!

Galanthus ‘Elizabeth Harrison’

This picture was taken on Saturday at the SRGC Early Bulb Display in Dunblane. It was exhibited by the grower of the ebay snowdrop – so how much is this potfull worth??
Did you spot it, Karen?

Is it the rarity that makes it so expensive? Or a completely new species discovered? Can you help me to understand this mania?
It is very beautiful.

I think that it must just be a collectors mentality, Ojibway, in the same way that a second hand book or an oil painting can fetch ridiculus prices. It is a very attractive 'drop and I can understand it being a little more expensive than normal, but not that much. Remember that this was sold in ebay auction and the buyer chose to offer the £725 for it - I know that the seller was gobsmacked by what it fetched.
No guard at all, Terra, in fact at times the display room was completely empty whilst lectures were in progress. God forbid that we will ever have to have security at our shows. In the many years that I have been attending them I think that I have just heard of one instance of a plant going missing.

Being of the class that was born in a council house I simply find it ridiculous, if I ever win the lottery bigtime I might change my mind. Well one can dream..
Does look pretty but would one dare put it in the garden to get lost amongst the commoners...

It is very pretty oh to be rich - but suppose I would not dare put it in my garden in case it died even if I had the money to buy it. It is a very dainty snowdrop, looks very very white can I just detect a tiny green spot on the the centre of it. I do like it very much thanks for showing it Bulbaholic.

Just a quick follow up I understand that Thompson and Morgan bought it, not seen it in writing though.

I wish I had been the seller, it takes me a month to make £50.00 on ebay if I am lucky.....a delightful plant, but still cannot see what all the fuss is about.

I wondered what it was like. it is pretty but I certainly wouldnt fork out that much.
