Rievaulx Terrace..North Yorkshire..

We visited this while we were up in North Yorkshire, recently…The Terrace is owned by the N.trust..and quite different from the nearby Abbey..which is managed by English Heritage..a blog on that to follow..
It was created betwwen 1749 and 1757,by Thomas Duncombe II,and is the epitome of an 18th century garden, with a terrace, two magnificent Temples,a woodland, wildflower fringes, and dramatic views over to the old Cistercian Abbey of Rievaulx.
First,a walk through the lovely peaceful woodland..to the large expanse of the terrace..so green, and well kept..There had been a very heavy dew,and in the shade it was white, like frost….and as it had recently been cut..imagine the state of our shoes..! I had sandals on,as it was hot..I might as well have walked in bare feet..absolutely wet through ,and green ! Hey ho.:o)

The Terrace..

a view of Rivaulx Abbey in the Valley..there is no direct route, only by another road..The woodland bank looking down over the Abbey,is a ‘designated Site of Special Interest’,and has huge conservation value to the area.
The public are not allowed to walk on it,and it is alive with wild flowers in springtime….so,the couple lying down on it,obviously sunbathing, couldn’t have cared less !

Across the Terrace to the Ionic Temple. This was open ,and interesting to browse around.

Across to the other end of the terrace,to the Tuscan Temple..this isn’t open to the public, but as you can see,it only houses a very nice table..

We didn’t spend a lot of time here,as this is all there is to see,but an enjoyable walk in the sunshine..so after visiting the “Facilities” to clean our filthy shoes..and my feet !. it was off to The Abbey..a wonderful place to visit.
so see you there soon..

Thanks Carole...I know how you like woodland walks..I shall try and remember to put suitable footwear in the car, next time we go anywhere..but it was one of the hottest days we have had,so didn't expect it.The woodland paths were dry..but the dew on the terrace was as white as frost ! Not sure why but I nearly missed this Bloomer and I do love your days out, always grand places to visit and I like the way you give the info as well.
Lovely photo`s as usual, thats a lovely one of the abbey in the valley.
I had to smile at the thought of you having green feet but on a sunny day ones feet need to breathe don`t they, lol....

I find lots of blogs and pics that I miss,Lincslass..but find most of them eventually..maybe I should leave them to read in the winter, when not much is happening..sigh!
Well at least the feet matched the green fingers..not literally, but you know what I mean..I do like to be colour co-ordinated ! Lol.
