About a month ago I had a request from OH Pauline for a flower painting must be yellow and must have a butterfly,This came about as she has changed her lounge colour scheme,We now have curtains a wallpaper with yellow in them plus cushions and a few small items
As the weather is total rubbish here I set about finding a suitable picture, the last flowers having faded some while ago
This is what I came up with see what you think the canvas is 20 × 16 and medium as always Acrylic and took around 3 weeks to complete working a couple of hrs most days in between walking and entertaining Jamie

Hope It Brightens the day

I'm sure Pauline will be as delighted with it as we are. I think you capture the essence of the flowers because you have such a good eye for detail. Beautiful butterfly too.

Thanks for your comments it looks to me rather harsh in the picture ,it is in real life a little softer easier on the eye

Most ladies start with watercolour if that is the case Acrylic is quite different you can use in a number of ways it can be quite forgiving compared to water you can use it thick like oil paint and very thin for washes and all other things in between.being water based you don't normally get in the mess a lot do with oil although that only applies to amateurs like me, certainly not to Linda in Scotland.

Paul you start with painting walls and work your way down to something more comfortable

It is cheerful and from what you have said I think it will suit your room, I bet Pauline loves it Brian, I personally don't find it harsh at all, I do like the added touch of the butterfly....

Professional no I took up painting with a very good artist teacher in 1999 just before I retired, I attended her classes for about 5 years but we stayed in touch for several years beyond that the only paintings I have been paid for are ones of dogs,I painted about 20 of them over several years ,that excludes 3 of Jamie which are shown on this site somewhere.
I don't recommend you look for them probably take hours if you want to see one I will repost it.
