Balcony's balconies!

As most of you will know by now I lived in central Spain for over 20 years. The last 19 we lived in the same city but in several different flats. There used to be few “houses” (mostly in the villages or in the very oldest quarters of the towns) & most people live in flats.

This is a photo I took of my youngest son leaning out through the Morning Glory that covered our fifth floor balcony, must be more than 20 years ago!

Houses n the very oldest quarters of the towns.

This is a photo of flats under construction, in 2006, where my son was going to live. Most people live in flats in big blocks like these.

This a photo of some of the oldest “skyscrapers” in Spain at least. They are flats several hundred years old built up the side of the cliff. On this side, down in the valley, they can be ten stories high but on the hill road they are only two or three stories high. In fact in this photo my mother-in-law’s flat can be seen.

For a few months we lived in the flat in the bottom arches you can see almost in the centre of the photo. Right next door to my parents-in-law’s flat!

Quite a contrast living there to being back in Britain.
When you were all those years in Spain, what did you miss most about England ?

It's nice to see how people live in other areas.

Hola! Went to Andalucia for the first time last year and thought the Spanish were very friendly. we noticed that unlike the some nationalities they like to have lots of people around and keep the TV on all day!

Lovely photos Balcony! Is the town Cuenca? I've heard about the "hanging houses" there that are built over a precarious drop. We keep saying we'll travel there one day but haven't got round to it yet - we're still finding places we didn't know about in our province of Cantabria. No wonder you call yourself "Balcony!" You must be a small-area expert by now!
