I put this blog together yesterday but today has seen a change, dry weather with a little sunshine but much, much colder. Hopefully tomorrow will be dry too, I am hoping to persuade my grandson to take me down to the GC to buy a few more bargains :)

Oh dear, I have just heard rain pattering against the windows again :(

A sweet William still flowering !

Do you know I had a boss once who looked rather like Jubilee (if he's the one having breakfast). He was a lovely person for all that.

Good purchases there - not surprised you couldn't resist.

Thanks for naming that plant, Stera, I bought two of them about last October time and they have been in flower ever since. Can't remember where I bought them but they were cheap. It's Josie having her breakfast (both are female) and, like your boss, they have lovely natures :)

Thanks, Linda, unfortunately it's raining again now :(

yes a trip to the gc is just what we should be doing at this time of year.

Gee the Sweet Ws don't last much more than a couple of years normally and get rather straggly after the first one but if you collect the seed it germinates quite easily.

Lovely blog Gee accompanied by some great photo's, I don't know much about tortoise but always thought they slept all through the winter months, I had to smile at Millie all snuggled down in her basket, our two hate the rain and its a devils own job just to persuade them to take a wander in the garden at the moment, makes life a lot more comfortable for me whilst this horrible weather is hanging around and I don't need to feel guilty for not taking them out, lol. You have some lovely pics of your visitors and it does add a bit of cheer to see the flowers out in the garden even though they are usually covered in raindrops...
Very wet here again today but now accompanied by the wind and oh boy its turned cold, might not even make it to the g'house....

Thank you all, glad you liked the photos.
Yes, you're right, Lincslass, tortoises usually would be hibernated in this country but after Josie was ill several years ago I was advised not to. It is difficult to be sure they are OK, especially when we get a winter like this!
Amy, I have had Jubilee since 1977 so she must be (vet estimate) between 60-80 now and Josie between 80-100, there is no accurate way of telling really.

We had more rain last night but today has been so cold and windy, I feel like hibernating myself this evening :)

Stera, I will have a go at collecting seeds from the Sweet Williams but I hope it is a bit warmer before I have to do that :)

Golly you are obviously doing all the right things to care for them Gill , are you still furnishing your lovely house with miniature furniture ? we haven't seen it for ages ! :o)

I still have the dolls house and all the bits and pieces, Amy, but it's all packed in boxes up in the loft. I had to decide between the tortoises winter accommodation and the dolls house - of course Josie and Jubilee won :)
My bungalow is not big enough for both but the house, etc is there if needed.

Its nice to know you still have it Gill I loved it and always thought of you when I saw any tiny miniatures for sale , I'm guessing one of your grandchildren will take it over and give it the love and care you have given it :o)

Lovely blog Gee. The bird pictures are marvellous. Will you be doing the RSPB survey at the end of January? Those grey pots are interesting....not seen them at my GC. I went after my dental check a few days back and it was deserted and nearly empty of plants. I found a fat ball feeder that takes 5 balls, so I had a small find. Nice bright day today but bloomin cold out while fettling the bird feeders. The grey pots are unusual, not seen them anywhere. The tortoises must have one of the best owners ever. They are so well looked after Gee.

It does take a lot of space, Amy, but I do hope it will come to life again sometime. The grandchildren all enjoyed it when they were young and even helped build and decorate it. Happy memories.

Thanks, Dorjac. The pots came in different colours but they only had these 4 the same. Not sure what I will plant in them or where I will hang them! Not too many plants in my GC either, and even the half - price ones seemed expensive. Very cold here today and the bus back from town broke down just far enough outside the village to make it too far, and a bit dangerous, to walk back. Arrived home very chilled and was glad of hot soup and cheesy toast.
