A sad time for us all

Hi Chris
We are all feeling the same about it..a few have started Garden Friends ...perhaps you would like to try that.Quite different from Goy.
Your Rhine holiday reminded me of ours many years ago...thoroughly enjoyed it.

As Julia says, a few of us have joined the Garden Friends gardening forum. It is taking me a while to navigate my way around, but with help from Eli (Hywel on here) and Balcony I'm getting there!

Howell sent me a message to tell me about Goy closing, in all honesty I haven’t been on here much lately as it was frustrating to use,…. I have been here since 2008, made lots of friends over the years , I shall miss each and everyone of you, I tried the Gardening Friends but couldn’t work it properly, I am probably still a member, I will check that out,…xx

We all feel the same Chris, and glad I got in touch and let you know it was ending ,I knew you would be disappointed,as most of us go back a long way.
Luckily we will be meeting once again next week,when we come to Devon ,I'll be in touch .x
Lincslass, We both go back to 2008,so we have been friends since then..
I am going to try'Garden Friends too,as Terra Toonie has kindly given me the link, but I don't think it will ever be the same as Goy..

I have just joined David. but found it quite hard to navigate . I did manage to add a comment on Shirley's post (now known as Rowan) but couldn't fathom out how to actually post it !! Hey ho,. Back to the drawing board with hopefully,a fresh start tomorrow !! I could be a while x

Garden Friends is very different to Goy and at my first attempt I failed miserably!

Can anyone tell me in a few simple steps what to do first?

Chris, these are my notes as I went along with the GF site and asked for help:

SEND A PM: Click on the persons name, or avatar, click on send message. Write message and send it (create).

TO START A THREAD: Choose which section it will go into (GF is divided into sections). On the main page, scroll down to see them, they are in Blue - Welcome, General, Gardening etc.

TO WRITE A BLOG: Click on 'Members Garden Blogs' and then 'Create Thread', Then choose a subject and write/add photos in the big box.

UPLOAD A PHOTO: Bottom of the page, on the right, you can write text here too. Click 'Add image to post'. Window opens - click 'Browse from your computer - choose photo and click 'Open'. When window changes, click 'Upload' and it will appear as a code in the text. The photo will appear as a picture in the reply, after you click on 'Create Post' on the bottom right.
Add any text before clicking 'Create Post' and photos will appear above or below them. Add one photo at a time.
ADD A PHOTO on your own thread as you do on another persons thread. Add photo as you go along, you can carry on writing after the photo has uploaded (it will appear as a sort of code in the draft).

If you put the @ sign in front of a persons name, like this - @person - then the person you're talking to will be notified of the comment.

PROFILE BUBBLE: This refers to the amount of notifications you have had. Click on the number, then click to see what they have said.

SMILEYS: Click on the word 'Reply' in blue, on the right of the blue bar, and then write your text there. There is a Smiley icon, click on it to see all Smileys.

Right, that's how much I know so far, by no means all of it, that's for sure! I hope this helps and that anyone who reads this can confirm it is correct! Good luck, see you on GF later ... :o)) x

Julia, writing things down is the only way I remember things these days! I hope you agree that all I have told Chris is correct?

I still don't know what the 'Quote' thingy on GF means though ... or what 'Tagging' means! :o(

Absolutely correct Shirley..she will find it much easier reading the instructions.
The 'quote' thing I'm not really sure of..in the beginning I was using it to refer to a particular person's comment and Hywel said I didn't have to use it every time..!!!!

Julia, without the advice and info. from Hywel (Eli) on GF I wouldn't know my way around the site!

I shall now copy out your thoughts so I have them when this site disappears. I hope to see you on the new site though.

I shall miss Goy and the way it works but I will try very hard to get used to a new system.
