The Garden House at Buckland Monachorum on Dartmoor.

This must be one of the prettiest gardens in England and I would love to share it with you.

I shall split the photographs into 4 sections:
1. The meadowland and pastures.
2. The azalea and rhodedendron walks.
3. The walled garden.
4. The pond and new arboretum.

PART 1. The meadows and natural gardens which blend in so well with the surrounding countryside.

PART 2. Azaleas and Rhodendrons and shady places.

PART 3. The walled garden.

PART 4. The new arboretum and pond. This area was opened by the Countess of Wessex in April this year.

I will close with a picture of the house itself and one of my very nice lunch because I know you will all be wondering about it!!!

We had a really enjoyable day there and if ever you are on Dartmoor, it is well worth a visit and Buckland Abbey is nearly next door!

Chris, that is simply beautiful. You are right about it being one of the prettiest gardens in England. I envy you your energy, too, walking round all that. It looks as though the weather was fairly kind to you as well, and that lunch looks scrummy and well-deserved after all your exertions!
Thank you so much for sharing it with us.
When are the family back from France? Take a deep breath and enjoy the peace while you can!

Glad you enjoyed seeing it too.

The weather was much better than in the forecast and was just right for wandering about.

The family return to us on Friday so I am gearing myself up for it slowly!!!

Thank you for that Wildrose, it really is a beautiful garden and set in such wonderful surroundings. Enjoyed your lunch...but, not as much as you probably did!

Because it was such a lovely and varied garden it was easy to put this blog together except that a number of pics were refused because they were 'too big' which was a bit of a nuisance!! I managed to find substitutes!!!

What a fantastic place - lovely views and things to see at every turn. The house looks very elegant - did you go inside or is that where you had your yummy looking meal? Your first photo is stunning, great shot and view.

You captured the garden really well Chris . . . thanks for the memories, as they say! We were there about six years ago - I'd persuaded OH to make an hour's detour on our way home from Falmouth - and he said it was the most beautiful garden he'd ever seen!! I've never forgotten the naturalness of the planting, and the wonderful Diaramas; glad you had such a lovely visit :)

That was quite wonderful, Wildrose. We are a long way from there but it looks so worth a visit. The views in Part one are to die for, as they say and I think it's my favourite section; but only by a single seed of a dandelion clock in the breeze. Thank you so much for sharing.

Absolutely Ba . . . has to be one of the best views in England!

I have never seen it as late in the year as this but have a feeling that it is at its best in May and June but could be wrong.

Forgot to say, could you have a meal that I could enjoy next time please, not a 'fish' person I'm afraid ...not too keen on coleslaw either. Now, did you have pudding? I'd like to see that instead:-))

2 Aug, 2013

I love puddings but didn't have one that day just in case we headed somewhere afterwards for a cream tea - but we didn't!!

What would have liked me to have chosen for you?

Now you're asking ...always love apple pie if the pastry is good and the apple plentiful and not oversweet. If it's served hot, I like it with vanilla icecream, if cold, with cream, but never squirty cream. I can't think of a pudding I don't like actually, love cakes too except cheese cakes, find them too fatty. What's that? I'm too fussy? :-))

Paddling ankle deep in our own floods, loving puddings especially the ones that are really bad for us.......we have so much in common, it is a shame we live so far apart or else we could visit numerous tea rooms and test the cakes and apple pies together :-)

What a fantastic idea:-))))

Tea -rooms are my speciality!!

We have two little cafes in Aldridge, both of which sell home made cakes, it was lovely sitting outside in the sun, good as a holiday. I don't go in too often, wouldn't be a treat if I did :-)))))
