Southport Flower Show

We were lucky enough to visit the country’s largest independent flower show again this year and once again we weren’t disappointed. We always try to go on the last day…when they are selling off. But I didn’t succumb this year to all the temptation, just coming away with some tulip bulbs.

I’ve no idea who this little tot is, but she certainly added to the photo.

Last but not least, my favourite gardener talking to the camera crew.

These are just a few of the many photos I took and as you can see, the weather was very kind to us, despite the warning of rain.

She is my favourite too!
Southport is where I was born and so this was especially nice for me to see. We are going back there in September for a few days, meeting up with one of our sons because he likes it up there too!
Looks like it is a lot more now than just a flower show with loads going on. I can still remember the wonderful scents in the big marquee mixed with the smell of the grass underfoot!
Must stop as I am becoming too nostalgic and I have a huge pile of ironing to do!

Isn't it wonderful? Would love to go some time. Siris would like the cushion in that armchair!

It's a lovely show. It also looked as if the weather was kind to you.

Oh wow, Waddy, that show really looks worth a visit. Beautiful displays with some unusual items: the chair is certainly a novelty. The knights are colourful but hope they didn't joust: very dangerous.

It seems a big event. I'm glad you enjoyed and had nice weather. How did you resist buying any plants ? lol
She's my favourite gardener too :) I think she should do another tv series.

Yes, so do I !

I grew up in Manchester & my Mum took me to the Stockport Show when I was about 14, a very long time ago! I still remember the displays of strawberries & other fruits. I don't think I'd ever seen them displayed in those great big stacks before. Probably my first ever big flower show.

Wildrose; I love the way she's so down to earth...if you'll excuse the pun! I must admit that Southport is one of the places I'd be quite happy to move to...even if it is in Lancashire lol! Will you be there for the Airshow this year?
The Show is far more than just a flower show. I think there must be something for everyone, even the little ones. This year there was Mr Tumbles and Mr Bloom!
I'd love it if Christine did another gardening series...perhaps she could take over from Monte...what do you think?

Stera; It might be a bit or a track for you, but I'm sure you'd find it worth it. Perhaps make a mini-break of it? The best day is the Sunday when they sell off at some great prices.

Marjories; The weather was lovely and very warm at times.

Eirlys; The chair was quite something and the 'gardener' was constantly nipping bits off. As for the knights, Yes they did joust and it was fantastic to watch and very realistic. They're know as 'The Knights of the Damned'

Hywel; It's a huge event it attracts over 50,000 visitors. As for resisting buying...it's all due to the fact my garden is full to bursting already!

Feverfew; I've not heard of the Stockport Show, but I'm a real fan of Southport. I agree with you though, the displays are fantastic.

So is mine, but that doesn't stop me ! :D

Looks a great day out. I too love the chair. I too like Christine, and would love her to take over gardeners world then maybe we all wouldn't be asking what "weak compost" from the last show :-).

Yes I too would be happy to see Christine in charge. She calls a spade a spade - not to be outdone by you Waddy in the puns dept!!

We won't be at the air show which is a real shame......I might even like the Red Arrows better than gardening!! Must be those red suits!!
We are going later on in the month to Southport so will miss the air display.

Sounds like the BBC needs a push...perhaps we ought to send a petition?

Wildrose; I'm with you those red suits lol! They actually did a fly past on Thursday, the first day of the Show, but unfortunately we weren't there that day. It's a shame you'll miss the Air Show, but I'm sure you'll still have a wonderful time x

Glad you had a lovely day in Southport,Julia..I think the show there is one of the best ,and it's a while since we went ..we came back with lots of compost that we were asked if we would like,as the show was ending..plus lots of Crysanthemums from the displays...by the time we got back to the car with bags of the 'black gold',plus flowers,it's a wonder there was room for the driver, never mind me ! Lol.Oh,and yes,,Christine Walkden for Gardeners World..bring it on !! :o)
