The OH and myself took an early spring break in Portugal last month. I thought you might like to see some of the flora they had flowering there at that time.

For those of you still getting wintery weather, I hope these pics have helped to cheer you up a little. Thanks for looking.

Very nice! Lucky you. I still dream of visiting Cyprus in the spring to see their wildflowers. :)

Doesn't it look summery! The bougainvillea is gorgeous, and I like that variegated thistle (if that's what it is) as well..Hope you really enjoyed your holiday.

Such pretty wild flowers everywhere and lots of colour too.
I am sure you really enjoyed your escape and have lovely memories of your holiday.

It seems we have all taken a liking to the thistle-like plant! You haven't told us what the white bird was in the trees, or what the huge stunning yellow flowered bush was!
Would love to know.

Lovely to see these photos Waddy. Were you near Albufeira? I remember, some years ago, walking across the cliff tops from Lagos to Praia da Luz and seeing masses of wild Lupins, just beautiful!

We were in Albufeira Shirley, we seem to head back there a lot as we love the old town and Portugal in general is such a lovely country.
The huge yellow bush was Mahona (?) I believe Honeysuckle or at least a close relative.
The white bird was an Egret. There were two but the other was too far away to get any sort of pic.
Karen, I also want to go back to Cyprus but due to its close proximity to all the troubles with migrants at the moment I'm not so sure it's such a good idea.

We used to stay in Alvor, when it was nothing but a small fishing village. Sad to say it has changed out of all recognition now, for the tourism trade. :o(

Thanks Paul, yes it's good to be back. Glad you liked the pics :-)

Jane, not sure about the bird life as such, but I'm sure you'd like Portugal, it's so beautiful and the people are very friendly!

Don't know Alvor Shirley, I'll have to look it up. Is it anywhere near Albufeira?

19 Apr, 2016

Waddy, it's about 16 miles/26 kmts between Alvor and Albufeira, with Lagos to the West and Portimao to the East, about a 40 minute drive if my memory serves me correct! I do remember the coach transfer from Faro airport to Alvor seemed to take ages, but so worth it on arrival. Oh, this is making me want to return :o))
