Garden Party.

Well today was the day when my wife and myself attended one of the Queens Garden Parties.

The day started well with no rain. We arrived early and parked the car in the Mall as we had been sent a car parking sticker allowing us to park there for the day.

Parked up we had a few hours to kill so off to one of the local hotels for a spot of lunch. Lunch I hear you say, but we were advised to eat something before attending. As the portions at the garden party would be small.

Having been well fed it was a case of joining the que to gain entrance. The que was huge, it went all the way down the side of Buckingham Palace all the way down past the Royal Mews. Having joined this que a friendly police officer then informed me that as a serving member of the armed forces I dont have to que and I could walk straight in. So back down the que and in through the front gate.

Once in the palace you walked through an arch way into what could only be described as a quadrangle and then into the palace it self. This part of the palace takes you up a few stairs and through two rooms which lead straight out into the queens back garden.

A large marquee is positioned on the left with two other marquees on the right. One for use by the queen and selected guests and the other for diplomats. Two military bands were playing and the rain held off as slight drizzle. We had a large umbrella, but to be honest you probably didnt need it.

The garden.. it has a long herbaceous border 170mtrs, rudebeckia, ligularia, bannana plants, salvias, chyrsanths, foxgloves and plenty more.

A fantastic rose garden hybrid tea’s and floribunda with no black spot. There is over two hundred mature trees, a small lake and plenty of shrubs.
They have a long grass policy, for wild life in areas, and compost all their clippings along with a steady supply of horse manure from the Royal Mews.

A fantastic garden of 40 acres, We walked as much as we could (feet and paths allowing).

The day was brilliant, the slight drizzle didnt spoil it, and it was a great honour to have attended. Oh and there was plenty of sandwiches, lots of cakes and plenty to drink in the way of tea, coffee, water and lemon barley. The staff were friendly and even bought us ice creams.

The Queen. I did see her but I wasnt one of the people attending that she spoke too. But she did look very fit and healthy.

Taken at the end of the day infront of St James’s Park.

Wooooow fantastic blog treesandthings – I take it you weren’t allowed to take photos of Betty’s garden that would be something to see that – Mrs treesandthing, looks great , absolutely stunning - us girls can’t help ourselves when it comes to an occasion - you look mighty smart too in your regalia but herself steals the show

Nice one Bob,
Great blog T&T, Did you walk around the lake? Its quite a relaxing place to be. I asked this bloke if he thought anyone would mind me dipping a line (fishing) His reply was "I don't think my mother would be to pleased with that plan" It was Prince Charles.
I was there in much less formal status....I used to deliver and help erect the marquees !! Lol

Loved the verbal trip around the royal garden, shame you couldn't take photos but you did a great job describing it. You both look great but I'm afraid your wife has my vote but then she was able to choose her outfit wasn't she!

Thanks everyone for your comments, I did tell her that she looked stunning but you women are far to modest to belive us men.

You were not supposed to take cameras or phones but I definately saw a few people with phones out taking pictures. I left mine in the car as I didn't fancy a trip to the tower.

A great blog from a handsome couple, a shame you didn`t get to chat with Elizabeth, but even so you can tell by your pics that you enjoyed your day.

Cutting the lawns in The Tower with nail clippers would be a punishment which would definitely leave one "not amused"!

Great blog of a great day!
