Freebies and bargins.

Went to visit the inlaws on Friday evening but before we left I had two hours to go around a garden show at Stanstead house. Usually we spend all day there but we had to drive to Manchester so I had to rush around to see what was on offer.

as well as a couple of little plants I bought this old chicken feeder and some sempervivums. Today I drilled some holes in it.

Then filled it with some very free draining compost with added grit, and planted it up.

It will now live on the kitchen window.

While I was away I managed to aquire these stone blocks from my sister in law and some old chairs.

The chairs and the old table lstand came from the mother in law.

What to do with them and where to use them?

Re positioned a Hosta as to give a bit more height, where we sit for drinks.

The chairs, using some old bricks that a friend left over the weekend for me I have extended the curved brick path, so the chairs can be positioned further down the garden where the is some shade on the nice sunny days we have been promised.

My friend that left the bricks over the weekend also left me a wooden barrel he no longer wanted.

So until I can figure out where is best for this I have positioned it by the arch. All I need to do now is get a few pots of pretty flowering plants maybee even trailing ones to put it to full use.
It does have an opening and I will use it for storing water and then either pump it out or syphon it when needed.

Freebies and bargins. This is what you get when you give friends and family some of your excess plants.

Thanks for the comments. It's not everyday freebies turn up but it's good when they are all worth having. I've got another friend who is having his driveway being done soon so he is going to give me his old rope edging tiles. I'm sure I can use those somewhere.

I keep seeing things at car boots but everyone no longer sells junk to get rid of, they usually sell to make a profit.
Shame.

Anyway keep your eyes peeled and hopefully everything comes to those who waits.

what great ideas you have got and brilliant photos as well. Your garden looks really interesting and packed with loads of plants. I also love your brick path. Was it easy to lay and is that grass i can see inbetween the bricks? I need to do something similar and am looking for inspiration and step by step guide!

Janque, for the brick path I positioned the bricks individually then dug out the required amount with a trowel, placed the bricks then jumped on them.

If you do it that way get some kneeling pads.
Also check out one of my previous blogs about "new brick path".
