Building Fences

Hey Ho! Last Saturday morning – after a very late night on Friday, looked out of the window and saw my new fence!

Decided to do some therapeutic shopping as I was getting a bit twitchy looking at it through the kitchen window. Went to the Garden Centre and bought some lollypop shaped Polyanthus in various shades of pink, purple and white, another Vinca in white, Aubretia, a pretty yellow/white Honeysuckle, a lush dark Hebe, a perky little Marguerite, a lovely little Geranium Blanda, two towers for my sweet peas to grow up and two large pots (for same).

Had a chat with our neighbour (nice lad – no concept of how an ugly fence can make a woman of a certain age very tetchy) and on Tuesday went out and bought a new fence!

Followed this with an orgy of spending this Saturday – went to a lovely place just outside Ware (Herts), called Priorswood, where they specialise in Clematis and bought two beauties – along with a 7ft Wisteria (which hasn’t arrived yet) – moved to next venue for shed loads of manure, 8 tomato plants (all different varieties) 3 grow bags (no room in the garden for these so they’re on the roof) a butternut squash plant and seeds for Sunflower and Courgette. 5 little Dwarf French Beans will go in between the flowers in the one flower bed (that at present has no flowers in it), but are currently just hardening off. Got a new spade and dug a big hole for the Wisteria (when it gets here), planted all that I could plant, sewed seeds and tidied up. Ironed a mountain of clothes that I needed crampons and climbing boots to get to the top of, watched in dismay as my other half cut a hole in the ceiling (don’t ask), and cleaned the resulting mess off the kitchen floor. Did 3 loads of washing and then went outside to admire the garden again!

I like your iron table.

Thanks guys. The gardening was nothing.......it was the ironing that did me in!

I find ironing very relaxing. :o) I enjoy it.

Ooo, will you come and do mine, Blodyn?

Yes. I find it so relaxing. :o)
Don't you enjoy it ?

No - and I don't do it if I can help it. I think body heat takes the creases out of most things, also I like the casual look - that's my excuse.
When I worked I had to wear a uniform - six blouses a week as well as pressing the suit occasionally and the summer skirts were pleated- nightmare. I used to hit the wine to make it bearable, finished up with double the number of pleats, lol.

ironing is great when I am in a strop with any one. It is stress relief of the best when the face of the 'idiot' is in the wrinkled cloth. :o)

Ironing who mentioned that word......I hate it with a vengance, only do it when poor old hubby needs a shirt to go out in, I hide it away so I cannot see it...lol hubby will sometimes say to me, oh is that a new shirt? he might not have seen it for a year, and no I am not kidding!! ask the neighbours, they all think it is hilarious when we go on holiday, I have to spend days doing the ironing (only if we go to a hotel) otherwise I take it with me and do it on holiday as we need it.......I would have throw away clothes if I had my way!!!

I think I only iron about once a year. I hate it. I'm with Wagger.....the casual look....if you take things out of the dryer right away and fold them there are very few wrinkles....that's my story and I'm sticking to it !!! LOL

I make mine fun - I listen to music in my little laundry room while I'm ironing - anything from Mediterranean Classics to Tony Bennett to Led Zeppelin, so I can wander along a sunny beach, shmooz at a nightclub or be a Rock Chick. Yeah! Right! LOL Makes the time go faster though.

Nariz will try that to see if it gets me in the mood......

That sounds saucy, Daisy - we're talking ironing here!

I see ironing is as much an obsession as gardening - or at least the avoidance of same! Just re-read the blog and realised I forgot to put 'anemone' between 'geranium' and 'blanda' - should have read - 'perky little geranium and an anemone blanda' - dippy woman! With my mother this weekend so am sorting out her garden, so my babies are left to their own devices. I miss them already!!
