Back to the drawing board, for the third time ,

I think its third time lucky as I feel more content with my latest attempt on the front garden.
First of all I took the long crazy paving path up… ( oh my god my bums not that big is it!) no you needn`t answer that one … and remade it into three long steps.

Thats the hard work completed. Now with the rockery border made to the righthand side ( in which plenty of sand and grit has been dug in) I have strategically placed some rocks and its now ready for planting. At this point my backs telling me its time to throw the towel in for today.
Right then another day and I`m ready for the best bit … doing some planting up of the rockery, starting at the top by the hand rail there is Chamaecyparis lawsonia `Ellwood white` and further along is Picea mariana `Nana` a small evergreen mound grows to 30cm ht and 40cm spread, inbetween theres Arabis, Aubreita, Thyme and Saxifrage should look good when they start colouring up. A generous spread of alpine grit should keep them healthy. On the other side I haven`t removed the green shale but have re-organised and added to the planting, starting in the corner of the steps with Lonicera natida `baggesen`s gold which can either be left or given the topery treatment, a bit further along is an old log with some Aubrieta then a few new Bergenia `Harzkristall` then I put a Broom `Zeelandia` which was in the back garden but didn`t quite fit in with the other planting there, next is Sorbaria Sorbifolia `Sem` then a lovely little Abies balsamia hudsonia which I picked up for a delightful £2. then more bergenia which were already there. Behind the lampost is a tall grass (name unknown) a stone pillar with ivy growing up it and in front another log with a trailing lobelia, the weather has been great warm with plenty of sunshine.
This side of the garden is now completed but I am taking my time and the rest will be done as and when.
I`m quite chuffed with what I`ve achieved so far and when the planting spills over the edges it should look quite good.

Hope you`re all enjoying the odd days of sunshine, happy gardening.

Loving it Stroller! You chosen a lovely selection of plants and to be honest it truly doesn't look like it's just been finished. Credit to your design I think.
Love the mushroom garden art - they really do add to the effect. Sit back and enjoy it now :)

Thanks Scottish its a few days rest now.

Well done in all your hard work Stroller.

It's looking great .

Just watch your back.

That looks great Stroller, I do feel for your poor back, that must have been a hard slog relaying all that paving but the end result is grand, it looks so settled already and as you say will be even better when they start spreading, that won't take long as everything is coming on in leaps and bounds this year, I really think you need a rest now before you start on your next change as you sure don't hang about....Ireally like your lamplight......

Stroller that looks lovely. Amazing how much of a difference it makes. Don't envy your back though with relaying all that stone. I'd put my feet up and bask in the glory if I were you :-)

It looks wonderful love it, its eye catching, you could surely show some of these kids up in their teens and 20s you deserve a long rest now, what about a medal you could pin on to your jumper, as the halo keeps slipping lol I liked that comment.

Thanks all for your lovely comments they are much appreciated. Well silly me has to endure a forced rest at the moment as my ankle gave way as I came down the last three stairs at home and ended up in a heap on the floor ... no bones broken thank goodness but have got a very swollen ankle and foot and to top it all I have got shingles, at least its I shall have plenty of rest time to mull over the rest of the garden.

I hope you recover quickly Stroller, sorry to hear you ve injured your ankle in home thats sod s law all that paving and you injure yourself in the house, keep your eye on those shingles they can be bad. x

11 Mar, 2014

Yes thats so typical and I also would call that sod's law and probably a few other choice favourite sayings that one just cannot write here, you are in the wars Stroller, I feel for you as know how annoying enforced rest can be, you take care and hope you're fighting fit very soon, sit back and admire your handywork......

Thanks Pam I don`t know about zoomer I`m more like zimmer at the moment.lol.
Thrupennybit I agree with you the shingles are b... painful.
Lincs as you know only too well a rest is great but it can get rather frustrating, but looking out the front window on the new area is rather rewarding.

I've been waiting for this blog Phyl ... and it's been worth it ... now you've got to be happy with this layout (haven't you?) ... just lovely. Sorry to hear about the ankle though ... and the shingles ... you take it easy and enjoy the view! :o)

11 Mar, 2014

Oh no poor you. Hope your feeling better soon.

11 Mar, 2014

A marvellous job, well done !
This should inspire many members to improve their
paths.
I hope you are getting some medical treatment for the Shingles. It never seems to go away.
There are also more viruses about.
Good idea to use antiseptic wipes around and in the nose,
ears, and around the mouth, when going where there are other people. Wash hands thoroughly on returning home.

Hi Shirley ... yes much happier now, just got to get the other side of the garden in check but of course that will have to wait awhile.

Thanks Diane it was looking at path ideas on here that inspired me.
