Sorry to hear she has gone. her blogs were always interesting.

Yes,and gone are all those great photos?

11 Feb, 2017

I've wondered about that myself. I thought she was my friend. To leave so abruptly without warning or explanation is very disconcerting. I don't know what to make of it, but I suppose that's how she wanted go. Others have done the same so I just take it in stride. I'd love to know if anyone has any insights.

Seems a lot have gone missing, I also wonder about the health of members when they just go, I wondered also about Pam who went last year, I am guilty of not posting much but its the time of the year, still here though like a faithful old retainer, to be honest if I did it would just be a repeat of what is already there, I got that fedup with it last winter that I joined the Gardening UK site, don't have the blogs like it is on here but I enjoy it, a friendly and very helpful bunch, some just starting out , others old hands like myself, its monitored with very good administrators so anything untoward soon gets sorted, that to me makes all the difference....

I would love to find an equally active site closer to home. I used to belong to gardening site here in the US. but it was sold and isn't what it used to be.

12 Feb, 2017

Oh dear just do what I did and browse around Paul, I watched for ages before I joined, then when I did pluck up the courage to join, I found people already there who only live a few miles away, as well as all over the UK....

As one member answered when I questioned whether my input to this site would be on the web forever if I did not delete my account.....this site could be my one shot at immortality.

12 Feb, 2017

Here's hoping it is just a temporary blip.
It's possible the worst has happened, sadly. I have lost several e-mail penfriends over the last few years. I have been fortunate that the family members have contacted me to let me know, but in one instance I learnt about it on Facebook as she had no family.

Loosestrife: The question of input remaining on the Web is an interesting one. I believe Facebook can be asked to delete an account , or to memorialise it. Not easy because of the sheer weight of numbers. As you say, it's one shot at immortality.

As possibly the oldest person here, I have listed the people I want informed and I shall now add the websites I belong to on a fairly regular basis.

I believe in reincarnation - not really, lol! But I've known people to have gone "missing" only to rejoin with a whole new identity. IF only life could be that easy!

12 Feb, 2017

To stop posting is one thing. But deleting years of photos and comments and writings, like you were never here is saying something. I guess we will never know.

12 Feb, 2017

Just on a practical side- some garden boards have hundreds of my photos I dont have because of dead virused hard drives.obsolete systems. So,If I stop posting long term...something came up very serious, but I dont see mysefl deleting.

12 Feb, 2017

Well I have disappeared in the last two hours, I know I answered L'strife earlier and now I have returned to find my answer has whizzed off around the universe, happens a lot, has done for years and I do not know why, lol ....
I'm like you Stan, think its sad to lose all that, so we are joining L'strife and have possibly found a way of being remembered, in years to come someone will find our blogs and put them up alongside the famous works that we all studied in our schooldays, lol.....

12 Feb, 2017

lol...and maybe somebody will put a gold star next to our name. Wouldn't that be nice?

12 Feb, 2017

Its a wonder GOY allows all contents posted by a member to be deleted. Most boards wont do that. You can deactivate an account so that people dont email what is no longer there..but photos and the like stay especially if no photobucket like website is used for posting.

I do know I stopped using photobucket...but my photos years later are still on websites. I guess to answer why would they be on the net forever is that if those photos get hits- that's just free advertising for the company.

If you are thinking of Pam , she is well, very busy, with many other activities. Writes to me quite often, which is very kind of her.
Eirlys you are not the oldest..........I am 89 in April. So the
calendar says. My Gerbils will be 4 years old next month,
when I bought them I was told they only live 2 to 3 years.
So that debunks that one.
I was pleased to see the Conifer expert back, sent him a p.m. to say so.......cant remember his atavar name now , he has 30 different dwarf Conifers in his garden.

13 Feb, 2017

Oh Diane thankyou for telling me news about Pam, I did worry when she never came on and wondered about her heaith, at least I now know that she is ok, I remember having her email address a long time ago, I'll have to send a little note just to say hello. that is of course if its the same one.....

13 Feb, 2017

Who's Pam? Klahanie?

13 Feb, 2017

Stan,

There's been 4 or 5 people over the last nine years (that were my friends on GoY) that have deleted their accounts. I'm not sure why? However, it may be just their wish to do so.

14 Feb, 2017

Well that's good news. Surprised all posts and images disappeared as I am told "they" are there for eternity somewhere in the ether. I keep telling offspring to be careful what they post but they don't listen!

Diane: Now how do you know I am not 90? Remember we chose an old cat, (13 this month), rather than a kitten. :O)

This is a virtual world after all!

14 Feb, 2017

I miss her. In case she reads this. I was glad to have met her.

14 Feb, 2017

She is away again at the moment. When she returns I will tell her Stan and Co. miss her. She isnt Klahanie.
I just wish people would use their own names, I get muddled up.

15 Feb, 2017

I can respect somebody's desire to leave and for whatever reason they may want to delete every trace of their existence. That's their business. I don't walk in their shoes; I'm not one to judge.

However, to abruptly cut off your "friends" without rhyme or reason - no explanation or warning is rather rude and inconsiderate. How long does it take to post a message? 30 seconds? 60? Did I do something wrong? Did you? What happened? We may never know. Apparently, we weren't worth the bother. That's all I have to say.

15 Feb, 2017

I know what you mean especially as we have been chatting for many years but cannot do anything about it Paul, I never thought I would join different groups but I did last year, I belong to two now, quite a few members that are also on goy also joined, I guess like myself they missed the chat and banter...

16 Feb, 2017

I'm trying to find something comparable in the US but it's not easy - nothing this dynamic. Maybe I'll actually get to meet somebody for once. There are some "old cows" on this site who do a lot of nothing I must say. They can leave.

16 Feb, 2017

I wouldnt mind being a Llama Bathgate, but not a cow,
too heavy.
Old is not a word in my repertoire. Elderly Llama is acceptable. (I like looking over fences.)
Pamg is fine, I have sent her all the members news, what they have been up to etc which she enjoyed receiving.

She thanks everyone for thinking of her. They do a lot of travelling, she has to do the cooking for herself and OH. She also has lots of local interests to catch up on when they get back - and 12 shirts to iron !

17 Feb, 2017

We are surely here for everybody. Old cows have rights too..Many of us qualify as old on here. Lots of members simply enjoy reading rather than taking an active part -isn't this OK?

17 Feb, 2017

I was just making an observation. You are funny.

17 Feb, 2017

Well earlier I did warn you Paul and said you would get yourself in trouble again but that comment doesn't appear to be here, my little gremlin is still active obviously, I do say I'm getting old Diane but only when my joints are aching, lol, I like that you don't mind being called a Llama and looking over the fence, very funny..
Stera how you getting on with your reader.....

17 Feb, 2017

It's fun to banter. I think we all enjoy it from time to time. I'm not always serious and like to see the humorous side of things.

17 Feb, 2017

Yes myself as well...I like the tongue in cheek humour as long as its aimed at people who can take it, think we've been around long enough to know who will participate...

17 Feb, 2017

Yes, of course.

17 Feb, 2017

Lincs, not at all. I havene't managed to put in the necessary passwords yet. It kept accepting them and then immediately say they were not recognised. so why did it accept them in the first place? However I have not given up yet...

18 Feb, 2017

Bathgate: You are not Alf Garnett in disguise, are you?

19 Feb, 2017

Eirlys, good comparison....

19 Feb, 2017

Lol...

19 Feb, 2017

ha ha slapstick comedy seems to never tarnish.
