Where do I start

It’s a cold and wet Saturday morning in February. My garden looks a bit worse for the wear after a very wet and windy few weeks. Over the last few days it has improved, but as I look over towards the horizon, it seems as if the weather forecaster will be correct; another wet, perhaps snowy, day ahead.

And it arrives, but it doesn’t stop me from doing two new things. Firstly getting out to do a bit of pruning and joining growsonyou.com.

I am vey much a newbie. A keen newbie, but newbie all the same. I am however looking forward to gardening, learning to garden and writing about learning to Garden.

First job today prune, tidy and play with Shiloh the labrador with his favourite blue burst football. Tomorrow plan and hopefully build a raised bed for veg. And If time allows post some pics here. Thanks for reading and have a good day.

A photo of the Shiloh waiting for me to play. No idea how to rotate it here, so apologies If I am causing any neck strain!

Welcome to GOY Shiloh - and your pal

Welcome to Goy Shilohspal, at least you have made a start and that handsome dog and the yearning look in his eyes says it all, playtime near the top of the list is a good idea, he might even help with the garden if you let him, my boys have perfected the art of a bit of pruning over the years, not always the right shrubs and trees at first but pleased to say we now have it down to only in the dogrun. lol....The trick is to enjoy what you are doing, then its not a chore.....

Thank you for your welcome folks.. I am looking forward to reading and learning about other peoples gardens. Yes Shiloh is very keen on a pruning. When he was a pup he loved to eat everything in the garden, although I am glad to say he has grown out of that now.

Gardening is so therapeutic - even half an hour pulling a few weeds and straightening things up is good for the soul and makes you feel loads better - it is a lovely time of year now - time to plan what seeds you will set and where they will go - I buy Gardening News that is a good mag for keeping you on the straight and narrow - Jane

Welcome from me too. Shiloh is an interesting name - is it the film, the game or the Israeli town?

Welcome to GoY. I am not far away from you in sunny Glasgow. Let's hope the weather dries up a bit and we can catch up with our southern friends. You will notice a time difference in flowering for us, but it just means the pleasure is yet to come. :0)

Thanks folks - Steragram, Shiloh's name comes from the town in Israel. No real connection we just liked it.

Thank you Louisa

Yes Linda, its been a lovely spell hasn't it? Such a change from the wet and windy weather we've become accustomed to. Although sunny and warm in the sun, the frost doesn't really go from the shadier spots. My grandfather always used to say the growing season was delayed by a week every 100 miles north you travelled.

Shilospal - yes it is a nice name - forgive my curiosity!

Thanks Bjs. Shiloh says hello too!

Steragram, thanks when we were getting him as a pup we had no idea what to call him. I think we heard it on a TV programme and thought it would suit him.

Its mentioned a lot in the Old Testament so he has a lot to live up to! It means Place of Peace and was the religious centre of Israel where the Ark Of the Covenant was kept before Solomon built the temple in Jerusalem. So tell him he has to behave himself!

17 Feb, 2016

Ah, good information. As for behaving himself - he is a bit of a rascal but on the whole a good boy. I shall pass on your comments to him and remind him of the importance of his name. :-)
