VARIOUS HOUSEPLANTS

As there’s nothing much doing in the garden, I thought I’d show you some of my houseplants

Aspidistra – at least 20 years old. This is the most leaves I’ve ever had on it! As you can see, it will only grow in one side of the pot – strange.

Out of three Christmas cactus, this is going to be the first one in flower, the first bud is almost there.

This second cactus is absolutely covered in buds (you can’t see them all on this pic), maybe it’ll start to open over the weekend. The third cactus hasn’t even got one bud on it yet!

Mother-in-law’s tongue. A gift from my m-i-l back in 1976. It flowers every year.

Tri-colour dragon tree

Cactus – name unknown

Prayer plant

Yucca with fairy lights on it (well it IS Christmas!)

Dracena

Plants in porch

Plants in porch

And, lastly, the Christmas tree.

Thank you for taking the time to look.

Sheila

Wonderful. I love your plants Sheila :o)
I wish my Sansiviera would flower. I've never seen one do it.
Your cactus looks like a Mammillaria, but I can't tell what species. Does it flower ? They might provide a clue as to it's identity ...
Your Christmas cacti are great too. They look very healthy.
And the lights on your Yucca are great for Christmas :o) ... Why not .. lol

Lovely plants Sheilar - Mother-in-law’s tongue is so cool!! Love the pot with the smiley face :D lovely sedum in the hedgehog pot - all nice selection - and very pretty Christmas tree :))))))))))))))))

Thanks everyone for your kind comments.

Grandmage, the 'cheeky' pot is shaped so it is higher at the front and lower at the back, it's got 'a right herbert' written on the back, so I think it's actually a herb pot. I bought it for my Mam many years ago and when she died, I got it!

Hywel, the sansiviera flowers every year but the flowers are so tiny and insignificant, I don't always notice them until they die off! The 'unknown' cactus has three red flowers on it every year - they only last two days at most. My brother grew it from seed.

Paul, sorry missed you off!! Thanks for your comments. I don't think it's a sedum in the hedgehog pot. It's some sort of succulent and has got tiny square leaves. It does flower but they're really tiny white flowers. My brother gave it to me and I'll get the name from him the next time I see him.

Maybe a Saxifraga ?

I have to confess , I don't like houseplants in our house, but like to see them in other peoples.I'm a bit odd like that! Yours look lovely and so healthy.

Hywel/Paul - found it in my RHS book - it's a cassula socialis (succulent) and has triangular leaves, (not square as I said).
Rose - I'm not that keen on houseplants but other people think I am and keep buying me them. I'm afraid most of mine thrive on neglect!!

21 Dec, 2011

Gosh! Sheilar, they're thriving on something! How do you keep them so long! My mum in law had an aspidistra that belonged to her mum, it was ancient! It grew on one side of her pot too! I moved it on to a slighty bigger pot, planted it in the middle...I swear, the daft thing had wheedled itself over to the side in about three months! I always maintained that it was trying to get out of the pot! We can't have many houseplants here either...the blimmin' cats eat them! Lol!

Cool Sheilar - it looked like dragons blood plant or very similar - very nice checked it out what you said :)))

Wow you have quite a collection! That Mother In Law's tongue is lovely. House plants are something I fail miserably at, no matter how hard I try.
