River trip (for Wildrose and Bampy)

On a recent Saturday, for once OH didn’t have his usual golf plannned, so I suggested an outing. “I’d love to go out on a boat”, I said (this was on the Friday), so we looked on t’internet and found a Marina about a half-hour drive away. When I phoned to book a boat, I was told they just had one left for a two-hour slot at 10.00am the next morning. Yippee!

The day dawned bright and sunny . . . glorious weather in fact, with no wind, so the water was completely calm.

We had a little motor boat, so happily went chugging up the river quite slowly, so that the engine was as quiet as possible. We saw many dragonflies and swans, two herons, and very few people – in fact there were hardly any other boats around.

At one point we passed the Ferry Boat Inn, so when we had taken the boat back to the marina, OH suggested finding it and having lunch there. I don’t know how, but he drove straight to it, and we sat in the garden with our cold beers, watching the river! What a fun day :)))

there are nice walks nearby, some near the river.

Houghton Mill is a good place to visit, restored & working mill. Took the children there a few times when they were young, also took our caravan there for a few days. Might look into a canoe trip round there at some point.
