A day out at Rushmore Farm

We decided to take our youngest grandaughter Maddison out to this farm where children can feed the animals. Unfortunately Maddison seemed to be nervous when she got too near them and as Grandma didn’t want to be the one holding her hand out with the food, Grandad had to do it ! It actually stayed dry although it was cool. Has summer gone, do you think !
I didn’t manage to take many photos , but here are a few. I thought it would make a change from flowers ! Hahaa!

Maddison wouldn’t come into the enclosure here , so it was up to Rick again !

Isn’t it cute !

These are micro pigs.

Snowy the owl !

At last …Maddison is persuaded to stroke the pony, thanks to her Grandad ! Perhaps she will be braver another time !

I must apologise ! I didn't realise this was the picture of the pony ! She did spend the time with the donkeys though! I think I must get some new glasses ! Hahaa!

I have amended the photo , but I can't seem to amend what I have just written above ! It won't delete ! Unless of course it already has !

Photo of her with pony, caption says pony - can't be bettered!
Lovely that you had a good day out with the family. What a pity Maddison is so nervous of the animals - perhaps she will get more confidence as she gets used to seeing more of them at close quarters.

Wise girl Madison. Wild creatures are nervous too and bite.

Thanks Steragram. Originally I had written "donkey" thinking it was a picture of the donkey so changed the photo wording when it said "edit blog" and when I had done this I realised it had been the pony anyway ! Senior moments ! lol

Thanks Diane, you're so right !

I am encouraging my granddaughter, Freya, who's only three, to show respect for ALL animals wild or otherwise. To begin with she was just like Madison but is getting braver everyday. Nw she's happy to stroke the ponies in the field near where she lives and recently had a holiday along with her parents at a working farm. She now understands that just like her, some animals may be nervous if they don't know you and can also have bad temper days, just like us. I do hope Madison overcomes her nervousness around animals, we have so much to learn from them, not least unconditional love.

Probably better to start off nervous than fearless around animals eh? I'm sure she will find her 'brave' in time :) these places are ideal for children who aren't used to animals aren't they? Lovely!

Whats this about you straightening yourself out?
Did you take to the sauce in my absence, you naughty girl? ;-)

Well well well ! If it isn't our Mouldy ! What a nice surprise! Does this mean you are in better health now ? I hadn't got a clue what happened with my last picture as I really thought it was a picture of the donkey ! When it turned out to be the pony, I then apologised as you will have read . But then, when I saw it was the pony, I needn't have wrote this. Are you with me so far Mouldy ? Then I couldn't delete what I wrote , so wrote another bit underneath the first one ! Clear as mud ! Hahaa! Nice to have you back !
Thanks Snoopdog, so am I ! lol.
Thanks Waddy. According to her Mum, my daughter, Maddison isn't usually frightened, so I don't know what was going on in that little head of hers ! She did enjoy seeing them all though and wants to go again.
Thanks Karen. I'm sure she will ! She is such a sensitive and young for her age child, which is a refreshing change ! Mind you, she likes to put a bit of make up on though ! lol

You do me the world of good,Rose..I have found a kindred spirit ! Lol..I understand you completely ..ha ha.I'm sure Maddison is just uncertain, and she may be completely different next time, when she sees they mean her no harm..especially with grandad to give her confidence and reassurance..
Like Julia,I also think children benefit immensely from being around Animals..They are usually more nervous of you,so that's why they come across as being aggressive,sometimes..and as these places are especially geared for families to visit,it's a great place to learn and be able to touch...lovely Photo's, Rose..and I hope Maddison enjoys her next visit :o)....

OH,you're back Mouldy !! great to see you again..hope all is well with you..let the fun stuff begin again..we have missed your humour ! :o)

Great blog, Rose. Gentle encouragement is always the best way to help any nervousness - of animals, water, whatever. It looks a lovely place to visit.

Hi there Mouldy!

A smashing blog Rose with some lovely photo's, it gets better as one reads the comments and I'm sorry but I'm sat here laughing my cotton socks off, I did manage to keep up with you though.
I'm a soft touch with animal farms, I'm sure I used to get as much enjoyment out of the visits as the children did, always had to have my bag of food as well, lol....
