The garden in November.

On these dreary days which a lot of you may be getting, I thought I would take a look around the garden to see what colour there was. Its always a cheery sight. My first picture is a bit of artistic license . When I looked out of our bedroom window and ducked down a bit letting the net valance hide all the background which consists of overgrown allotments left to go back to nature and school buildings in the distance, it just looked like we were in the countryside. What do you think!

Now, back to the garden…

This is one of my favourite Hydrangeas

A close up!

These last two are actually on one plant. They were grafted together to produce two different flowers.

Now this does brighten up the garden, don’t you think!

Another cheery sight!

Where would we be without our trusty Viburnham! It never lets you down and is great for flower arranging. I also use it in my Christmas wreath.

Climbing Iceburg still flowering.

Brother Cadfael. I first saw this rose in Geoff Hamilton’s “Paradise Gardens” years ago on Gardeners World and fell in love with it!

No name for this one. It was a freebie from a gardening magazine !

Bonica still hanging on to its last flowers.

I know you will be tutting when you see these, Hywel! I just couldn’t bear to move them and I will very soon, promise! lol

I can’t believe this one is still flowering! We haven’t had any really cold nights yet!

Leycesteria Formosa

Oh, I do love the heucheras. Thanks Karen Susan for introducing them to me!

I thought I’d end my walk with my one and only beautiful Acer. I bought this years ago at a tree auction and it is now about 15foot tall.
I hope you all enjoyed my little walk. Roll on the Spring!

Hello Rose..
Pretty set of pics from your garden, and views beyond :o)

Nice to see the hydrangeas, fuchsias and roses.

great blog Rose. i'm discovering many types of hydrangea and they seem to like my garden. :-)

Hiya Terra, thanks . Before the hedges grew, it was an eye sore out there!

Thanks Sandra. I just love all my Hydrangeas and they make lovely dried flowers too.

10 Nov, 2012

they are lovely..how do you dry them Rose?

10 Nov, 2012

my fuschias are still flowering, never do bring them in, in the winter! what will Hywell say? My half hardy one in the front is still in full bloom as well, might cover this with fleece, and might put a plantpot over it aswell.Hydrangeas looking good as well. Lovely coloured Acer, Rose

Hallo Sandra again. All you need do is to cut them, put them in a vase with water in , but not too much and just leave them. As the water dries up , so will they. My last ones I dried, I kept for two years!

Thanks Gralew, nice to meet you.

Nice to see all the colour in your autumn garden Rose :o)
That fuchsia should be all right in the ground if it's a hardy variety. You could give it a mulch for some extra protection, if you like :o)

Gralew, I usually bring my fuchsias in at the end of November, but sometimes not until Christmas time (depending on the weather). They always seem to do better in autumn :o) I think they enjoy the cool damp weather, and they're tougher than people think ...

Your hydrangeas are lovely especially the first and last pics of them. The Leycesteria has to be a mainstay in any garden I have, as do the viburnums and primroses. Your weather looks as grey and miserable as ours. Its been raining for weeks it seems although I have noticed lots of dry starry nights and then the rain comes during the day. My least favourite weather. We still have lots of colour in our garden in spite of it and I do wish I could get out there and plant the last of the bulbs I bought to brighten up the spring garden. I always thought you lived in a remote country area. Clever photos to hide the surroundings.

Thanks Hywel. I'm not sure if its a hardy one or not , but mulching it is a good idea, thanks.

Your garden is beautiful Rose and you still have so much colour left, amazing really for November, roses are so loyal aren't they? Sometimes I pop a rose into the freezer and bring it out on Christmas day to put on the dinner table.

Great blog Rose, I love the hydrangea`s, its never occurred to me to dry them out for indoors, your fuschia`s are still looking good, one of mine is only just beginning to flower and is showing no signs of yellowing leaves but my ones in the baskets I`ve already hung in the g`house as they were beginning to look sorry for themselves, mind you the poor things were in the front of our house and there`s been a lack of light out there for weeks, my tubs out there finished early this year and the two borders were a dead loss as well.
Lots of colour to be seen Rose, I envy you your acer, mine are babies bought this year, be nice if they last as long as yours..

Our tall hedge hides another housing estate, scout hut and a carpark but you cannot tell if the camera is angled correctly, lol.....

We have had some lovely sunny days, Scotsgran so should have been taking my photos on one of these days! I sometimes think its like living in a remote area as we are in the middle of allotments with no neighbours and in the winter with the early dark nights feels as if we are miles away from it all when in fact the town is only 15 minutes walk away, so we have the best of both worlds! I seem to be lucky with my Leycesteria Formosa , because they seem to be short lived and another "baby" always pops up somewhere else in the garden. Thanks for your comments.
Thankyou Scotsgran and what a good idea with the rose. I'll have to try that!
Thanks Lincs. I don't know what part of Lincolnshire you are in, but its not been too bad here. Lots of sunny days and the odd miserable rainy day. Sorry about your plants. Its sad when everything has to go in or into the compost! The Acer we bought isn't a miniature and has got better each year. Its amazing what you can do with a camera Lincs. I remember when we first came here in 1999 and the hedge was low and I used to sit there squinting , imagining that the background had disappeared and now it has! One of the allotment holders couldn't understand why we let the hedge grow , thinking we wanted to see run down allotments! As if! lol

I'll need to try Grandmages advice on freezing a rose too Rose. Do you cover it with water before freezing G'mage?

11 Nov, 2012

No Scot, i just put the rose in a plastic box and freeze it that way! :)

11 Nov, 2012

So, does it just last the day then, Grandmage?

I did enjoy your lovely photos, Rose - I think so much more carries on at this time of year than we remember. I love autumn, even when it starts to get a bit damp and misty. We have had some sparkling sunny days here recently - lovely! I have a few primulas flowering, and violas. The fuchsias are still going fairly strongly, although only the hardy ones are still outside. I always put whatever I can find into the Advent wreath - it's amazing what a variety is still available in December - lavender, rosemary, box and of course skimmia japonica with its marvellous red berries. Anything evergreen, in fact!

11 Nov, 2012

You've still got lots going on there Rose - all my hydrangeas have had it!!
Thanks for sharing with us :)

Hello Rose I'm back!! Your garden is still looking so pretty and so much is still in flower and looking good. I bet you will still have some roses at Christmas! Your 'free rose' is a little beauty isn't it?
xx

11 Nov, 2012

Thanks Mel. Do you know, I wouldn't have thought of putting lavender and rosemary in a wreath. What a good idea as the scent will greet company at the door! I don't know why my skimmia has no berries yet, but I have one with white berries and I use these instead.
Thanks Scottish, Thats a shame about your Hydrangeas. Do you mean you've lost them?
Hallo Chris. I was wondering where you'd got to. I thought you might have fell in one of the Lakes! Lol. Thanks for your comments and I really wish I knew the name for this rose. Its the only peach one I have.

11 Nov, 2012

Rose, yes only a day or maybe two if the heating is not on full blast!!

11 Nov, 2012

Hi Rose, thank you for the honourable mention! I've been away all weekend, so have only just found it. Lovely hydrangeas you have there. I hope today is less dreary. Wasn't yesterday just a wonderful day? We sat outside our hotel in London drinking coffee in the warm sunshine before flying home, and we had a fantastic double trip on the Emirates 'Air Line' Cable car ride in Docklands...the views are just fantastic...if you ever get the chance.....! :) Oh, and to top it all off, I came home to find I had received a new Heuchera! :) Just off to take a pic now...

12 Nov, 2012

Oooooh Karen, we live down the road from the O2 and havent yet been to the Air line cable car, its always the way isnt it with something on your doorstep? We will go one day!

12 Nov, 2012

It is GG...tell you what, I'll do you a deal...you go to the Air Line and blog it, and I'll go to Arbroath Abbey and blog it! lol ;)

12 Nov, 2012

One day Karen and hopefully soon, you blog it first!!! Lol (hubby not long been out of hosp. musn't excite him!!)

12 Nov, 2012

Oh golly, sorry GG, I hadn't realised! Hope he is on the mend.

12 Nov, 2012

Well, I haven't been to either places , so I would like you both to blog it! Thanks karen for your comments. Another new Heuchera, you lucky girl! Looking forward to seeing that!
Grandmage, I didn't know your hubby had been poorly. Is he ok now? Best wishes and hope he's on the mend.

12 Nov, 2012

Not lucky so much as 'greedy' Rose! ;)

12 Nov, 2012

Noooo, You! Only joking! Hahaa!

12 Nov, 2012

;) ! x

Love the look of the cable car! I googled it as soon as I read your comment, Karen. I'm an ex-Londoner, but don't get down there all that often now. I'm having a w/e down there in March with son number 1, catching a show, so I might suggest we try it. I so enjoyed the Eye when I went with my sister a couple of years ago.

12 Nov, 2012

Good Melchi. I think it is much better than the Eye myself...more interesting views.
