“If you go down to the woods today”…or in my case “If you go down to your garden today”..you will find it looking like this…
I said on my homepage that I had a plum tree that was in a very bad state and it needed cutting down before the winter storms come….well my friendly neighbour who is a retired gentelman and has loads of time on his hands…who told me that he would help me cut the tree down next week decided to give me a big suprise today and cut it down on his own…thank you Ernest…you did a great job mate. Well that one job that I won´t have to do, now all I need to do is get my garden shredder out and get all the branches shredded…..as far as the rest of the tree is concerned…the trunk, I will just hide them somewhere and let them rot at their own pace. They will make lovely homes for the insects and wild bees etc etc, so really they will not be wasted.

Hallo Bamboo. Yes a very good home for insects, but by the look at the inner of the stump they have been at home for quite some time !.

@ Kfunsters. He is a nice old gentelman, but really he was frightened that if the tree fell down on its own in a storm it would damage his property !.
BTW to those of you who don´t know where I live..the town of Wuppertal, look at your map of Germany and you will find it roughly about 40 kilometers east of Düsseldorf and about 50 kilometers north of Cologne.

I must say that my hubby loves collecting odd pieces of tree trunks to make his nature enhanced sculptures but I dont think he would have got far with yours Rogi it was certainly the right time to chop it down.

@ Kfunsters..."Have I replaced it with another tree?"...there is already a sapling growing out of the bottom of the tree stump that is now about 12 feet high....(Ernest left it growing).. I will leave it there for the time being, maybe you know..or anybody else knows, do saplings do any good...ie produce fruit after a while or is it just a "weed"?.
@ Stroller "odd pieces of wood", my thoughts have been to chisel..or cut the rotted bits out of one of the logs, and put it under the hedge...a nice hiding place for the many hedghogs that are in the area.
@Cristina.."fire logs", we live in a very inviromently friendly area and it is forbidden to burn wood in the gardens and at home we had the fireplace taken out years ago..we just have gas central heating there now.

o no gas very xpensive here now , so better to burn logs , hubby works on farm so gets the old wood from there . we dont use them in garden we have a log burner in the house , surly gas is more harmfull to enviroment . useing up earthes resorces etc.with modern log burners dont produse lots of smoke , something to do wth combustion , u have to google hun xx

The tree was really worn out but you need to grow something else there as soon as possible.
