I have the most terrible infestation of small green caterpillars. I've tried "bug gun" and other supposed caterpillar killing remedies, but they're surviving and eating all of the buds on everything on my terrace. Any suggestions?

Putting some black bags around the bushes then shake the plants or using a hose to wash them off then roll up the bags and bin them. I have also noted lots of green caterpillars recently! Birds do eat them.
