how good is astroturf

just posted the question of laying lawn on concrete and very kindly had a swift reply saying there is no way really, how good is astroturf, such as how long does it last and can you get it soft textured etc also is it expensive and whats the best way to go about laying it

And I think it's a bit scratchy compared to proper grass. Might be cheaper in the long run to leave the paving down on the concrete, or leave the concrete and buy some of that shock absorbent rubber stuff the councils use under swings, etc., though I'd guess that's pretty expensive too.
