We have an ash-like mould in our compost heap, although we have completely cleared this once before it has now grown again in a thick seam all through the heap. any ideas please

Yes I sometimes get that in my bin but it seems to go in time. Better than a rat-run which I think I've got again!! Hate putting poison down but it will probably come to that - not in the bin of course!

I think it might be a natural part of the decomposition of the heap - and won't do any harm.
