Anyone ever tried "slug gone"? Its meant to be sheep wool in pellets - you place round the plant - water it and it forms a protective area that keeps slugs away. The leaflet says it will last for a year and its biodegradable and also nutritious to the plants. Anyone here used it and found it successful?

Yes - Cornish Sally tried these earlier in the year. I had my doubts about how effective this stuff would be if the weather was very wet - which it has been, obviously, and Cornish Sally reported that, once the product was sodden, it acted as a welcome mat instead of a deterrent. So it seems it works well if the weather is quite dry, but if its very wet, NOT, lol!

I would agree with that. I had very good results earlier in the year when it was dry, but after this prolonged spell of wet weather, it is doing nothing at all to deter the slugs and snails.

I have used it for a while too, before it was renamed as 'slug gone'..very good, and plants prone to slug damage
have been fine..I still get them, but everyone has had lots this year, but have just had to be extra vigilant..I find it's best to dig it into the soil around february, before the eggs hatch...they are just waiting to get to new growth emerging..especially around Delphiniums..I also dig some more in,later in the season..

I've had your same experience - it worked fine when dry but not at all when wet. I think it must be its coarseness that keeps them off - a bit like sharp edges from eggshells. I will try to dig it in early as Bloomer said - I didn't realise that's when the eggs hatch.

As this is made from Sheep manure,it has lots of wool fibres in it,which sticks to the underside of the slugs, and dries them out,so they can't function properly..no damage to this years Delphiniums at all from slugs..even now,as there is lots of new growth again, since they were cut back after flowering....I did find snails hiding amongst the foliage though..but no damage...prevention is better than cure,G.Fairy..so hope it works for you...even the cold winter doesn't seem to kill the eggs off,as they are underground..hardy nasty little b......s ! :o)

Bloomer - its not made from sheep manure, its made from sheep fleece - no poo involved at all, lol!

Oops sorry,Bamboo..I meant to say fleece, but ''fertiliser ''was on my mind at the time....as it is alleged to be that as well...just the wrong F word ! Lol.
