how often do I need to water my fig tree

It is in a very large pot and has lots of figs on it at the moment. However the leaves seem to be dropping and the larger figs are going soft. I know you should not look after figs too well but I am confused as to whether I am over watering or under watering. Please help

If there are figs on it, it needs lots of water, and you really can't overwater it in the growing season.
The overwatering occurs when the plant is not making growth and if there is not good drainage. As long as the drainage is good, keep watering but test the soil with you hand (delve down a lttle) and see if it is wet first.
