I have one planted against a south facing wall, with the roots in the shade. Not sure if that makes any difference. Once it gets going it is rampant. It is quite enormous now. It got through this winter no problem. We are down in a valley aswell so the temperature drops considerably. We have flowers each year but no fruit as it is not self pollinating. We will need to get a male if we want fruit. I just love the foliage.
