How do I brighten up a rented garden?

Bedfordshire, United Kingdom Gb

I live in rented accommodation which has quite a large grey patio area, unfortunately my neighbour has built an extension which blocks out most of the light...any ideas to brighten it up?

pots of begonias, bussy lizzies and if not too shady small dahlias will add colour and lift. asit is rented i would go for annuals if they are going in the ground. definitely pots for the patio, then when /if you move they can go with you.
welcome to GoY too.
