I'm just a beginner and gardening is my hobby. Could you please explain further what does crossing stems mean and how do one carry it out? As my dad usually prunes my rose bush. I need help with this.

spray it with something like Roseclear (fungicide and insecticide). Have you been pruning it properly? Removing dead, diseased wood and crossing stems maintains good airflow around the stems and helps to keep disease at bay.
