180 year old conker tree is unwell

We have a beautiful 180 year old conker tree here at the lock side. This year we have noticed that it seems to be shedding its bark. You first hear a cracking sound then several pieces of bark fall from the tree.
This conker tree does have a persavation order on it.

Pour some disinfectant on the wound it happened to our 200 yr old one it was horrid and weeping I thought it was coming to its end but after putting a diluted solution of Jeys Fluid in the wound it dried up, and is still there some 25 years later.
