How can i trim this bush

its called a cistus,have found a picture of it but it doesnt tell you how to trim it, it hasnt flowered yet so i wont do it at the moment, but it has got very large, dont want to ruin it as it was my late mums.

When they get old, they do get a lot of dead wood so cut that out. Otherwise, they just get on wih it!

Cistus don't take kindly to being pruned. If you have to do it, I would suggest doing it immediately after flowering and don't cut back into old wood
