Hi . I bought some Penstemon red garnet plugs last autumn and potted them up. I am thinking of planting them out, but they have got a bit straggley. Do I plant them as they are or do I cut them back a bit. If I cut them back do Ido it before or after planting out. Thanks

Now is a good time to trim back Penstemons. Don't cut them too hard back, but down to some nice new shoots. Use the bits as cuttings for more plants, too!

my thoughts exactly. plant them out and give a light trim. trimings make good new cuttings too.
