On downland (chalk hills) in England is one answer. You wouldn't choose it to grow things on - it's difficult, dry and "hungry".

I live in the middle of the south downs down here in sussex and it's pure chalk. However, a few miles north of me and we have both sand and clay soils !!!

As to where you would find in Canada I have no idea, google for a geology map of your area.

South London has clay - but with great lumps of chalk in it. I remember it from a child.

12-14" below the soil in my garden is bedrock chalk on the edge of the Yorkshire wolds.

I believe that Chalk River is near to Ottawa, perhaps there might be some chalky soil near the chalk river? (check it out, I have never been to Canada or even USA)
