How do you get rid of moles?

Is there an easy way of getting rid or deterring moles from my garden. I have never had a problem before but last autumn my lawn was terrorised by a mole, I'm pretty sure it's just one. I have been left with irruptions everywhere, and spongy canals in my lawn. It's really disheartend me. Any tips most welcome!

pour some castor oil on top of the mole hills and the mole will find somewhere else to tunnel.

Put moth balls in the run. Place a childs windmill in the mole heaps.

Previous question
I narrowly missed a mole invasion last month (am still hoping they have gone the other way) - From experience one mole can be very destructive. Deterrants would be a short garden cane pushed in near a run with an upturned bottle on the to rattle the cane (aparently they dont like the vibration) - sonic mole repellers. Or the drastic route of trapping, or smoking out the tunnels.
