Why are there no worms in my compost. I have been using garden waste and some kitchen waste for years. Could lack of mopisture be the reason- the bins are covered and under trees.

I was told by my grandpa that urine is good for your compost pile as well as rain water to keep it moist. If it turns dry the ants arrive and the worms disappear. I was told that you can buy some red worms perfect to add to your compost pile- not yet investigated that one though,
