I have some overgrown ornamental grasses in a rockery. When can I cut them back?

Two years ago I cut them back in Sept. but they didn't grow for ages, so I left them lastt year and they look dead and very tall.

I would cut them down now. Chances are they will be sending up small new shoots as I answer your question.

The right time to cut down deciduous grasses is late winter or early spring, before the new shoots start to appear. So as Trees says - do it ASAP!

How do I say thanks?
