malas pruning

United Kingdom

I have a malas(crab apple) it has been covererd with berries which the birds have eaten-there is still a few left on. Now that the tree is starting to form new leaves - should I leave last years berries on or cut them off.

welcome to GoY In the past i have taken them off and left them on the ground for the birds. It prevents them going mould[ier] and cuts down on the risk of infection. but in the wild.......
hope you enjoy this site.
