For some reason my last question about tomatoes appeared with a pic of one of my pears from last years question!!
I'll try again, hopefully with a tomatoe pic!!
Anyone know what causes this please?

I agree Bamboo. As Bamboo says it is caused by lack of calcium in the plant, which is caused by interrupted water intake. Don't despair, it can be cured by watering several times a day if required.

If that's the bottom of the tomato, it's Blossom End Rot - caused by irregular and insufficient water supply, disabling the plant from taking up enough calcium.
