i have been given some "viola" and "cornflower"seeds. when is the best time to sow them?

If the seed is 'fresh' I would sow them in seed compost now, in a seed tray or small pots and put them in a sheltered shady place, keep them watered and when seedlings appear, keep them protected over winter. Or, you could wait till spring and sow them then.

I just throw them straight into the ground and they grow the next year! This is what happens to them in the wild.

Sounds my sort of strategy, Sheila! Just chuck them all over the place, but keep a few to plant in the spring, just in case they decide to be awkward, Dab!! Happy chucking! Annie
