i am growing some butternut squash from seeds now they are tall and bushy do i need to pinch the growing tips out for them to develop fruit

Butternut squash are rampant vines, 60christine, so they don't normally bush up, but they will climb and trail forever. They may already have blooms, and you may have to pollinate them yourself to get fruit. On the other hand, it is now a race to ripen them before frost!
