Morrison's plastic flower buckets.

North Yorkshire, United Kingdom Gb

I could phrase this as a question by starting with 'Does anybody know about?' and 'cheat' like Noseypotter did with his Christmas wishes lol. But just in case you don't know and have a Morrison's near you, they sell off their old plastic flower buckets (about 12" across and 15" deep) in batches of minimum 8 for 99p. Drill some drainage holes in the bottom and they are brilliant plant pots. Black as well so they absorb the heat. I was in there yesterday and saw several stacks of 32 with tape on saying 8 for 99p. So I picked up a stack and when I got to the till with my bread and margarine I noticed that when scanned, instead 3.96 it registered 99p. Being of the honest type I pointed it out to the lady on the till.' No' she said, ' Depends how many we have. If we have loads we bundle them in anything up to 32s. And it is still 99p. We just want rid of them.'

So my large black plastic plant pots are costing me 3p each plus 10 seconds each with a drill. Just thought others would like to keep an eye open.

'you actually have to be nice to the customers! lol '

I used to cut mine up. Where are those bleedin' smilies?

14 Jan, 2009

I said something like - poor Morrison's won't know what's hit them when lots of GOY members pour in and ask for the pots!
What's with the bad language, John? I am not smiling at you at the moment. :-(

Sorry Spritz. I was a bit over wrought. The wrong thing totally for a retired professional (especially in my profession) but after a week on a bed board and a lot of aggro I used the word 'bleedin'. That is about as strong as I get but I agree it is not called for here. Boy am I getting hauled over the coals tonight. And all because I wanted to give my friends some advice about plant pots.

and Irish, you could always ask your local flower shop, a lot of cut flowers come in from the wholesalers in them, so they often have an abuance that they are trying to off load.

He IS in a bad mood today, isn't he!

What do you mean - on a bed board, John? Have you hurt your back?

Does this explain it all, guys?

14 Jan, 2009

~I have been buying them at the local Morrisons for quite a while~ some are slightly larger than others and they are quite sturdy!

14 Jan, 2009

he is rather, you would have thought that some cheery conversation with the all ladies would lighten his mood...but no! maybe laughing/smiling makes his back worse, or something Spritz?

Maj. What are you doing on this thread if you get yours for free anyway? And who let's you loose with a drill? (Is it true that you want to get *everything* for free?) Lol.

I really want to thank everybody for their concern about my bad back. I *want* to thank them but somehow..........

Anyway must crawl off to a meeting of the North Yorkshire branch of the Grumpy Old Men's Society which has just made me chair for the 7th consecutive season.

John.

YESSS! Thanks John, even if you ARE a 'gom' (work it out lol). My helpful husband went shopping for us today and called into Morrison's. I now own 16 large pots!

SUCCESS!!

Doesn't take any working out Spritz. It stands for 'Grand old man'. My Boss Lady is getting very jealous about all the attention I am getting from far younger women. Jacqui reckons that certain people are trying to lull me away from Scarborough into going back to the East of London (quite near Barking and Dagenham, towards Walthamstow which is where I worked for a while) so they can pinch my zimmer frame. Oops. They are in Essex, which is where Mrs Sarra is from. And she is useless with a drill.

LOL Romford actually, and John have'nt you learnt anything about women in all your years?...women can usually figure out how to do most things, when left to our own devices, we pretend that we can't use/do things that are considered 'mans work' for one of two reasons 1) so that the men will do it for us, 2) men have easierly bruised egos, we have to allow them to feel useful, if we don't they turn into GRUMPY old men - well.....i rest my case!

15 Jan, 2009

What a bargain - I'll keep em peeled!

15 Jan, 2009

Thank goodness you are resting, keep it up for a few years.

Actually I was referring to Whipps Cross.

Once went to Romford market but it was full of women.

Hate women's lib. Hate men's lib. In my world we are all pretty good. Why do you hate men? I have an ex-colleague who would find your answer fascinating.

15 Jan, 2009

lol full of energy, don't need much resting! i think you will find i am always back with a vengance! and I don't hate men John, - just know their weekness....one of the biggest is in fact women...I can see that you feel a bit insecure in a mainly female environment......this does'nt make you any less of a man.......we are all friends here, if at anytime you feel that you need to 'share' about these issues that you have, my PM box is always open....LOL

15 Jan, 2009

My goodness, Angie - you ARE brave!

15 Jan, 2009

lol....do you think i might get arrested? - John knows i'm only playing, you know me don't like to be out-bantered!

15 Jan, 2009

i'm gonna butter him up now,,,i'm after a plant swap...do you think he will go for it?

15 Jan, 2009

I have just sent you 250gms of butter. I need root cuttings off the Persicaria which I will attempt to take in April and pot up here. So if you remind me at the beginning of June I'll see how many I have. A few people want one (including me) so if the crop is sparse we will have to draw lots (excluding me). They do spread a bit but are not invasive.

GOM.

16 Jan, 2009

oooh thanks John you know how i love a freebe..... and you mean i won't get priority for the Persicaria? truely hurt! after all i just bring so much joy and happiness to your life.....lol just joking - ofcourse happy to take my place in the que...have a look at mine see if there is anything you want to swap with....you never know this might just sway i in my favour!

How do I say thanks?
