Hi, Tinman, Sorry to say they are going to seed, they most likely have been short of water . and planted to close together. I think they will eat dry, and woody.Plant your seed in short rows spacing the seed in two's about 4" apart, .when plants grow to 1" tall carefully pull one out and throw the thining away, they don't transplant well, don't let them dry out, when they reach the size of a banty egg pull every other one , these will eat well.pull them up as they become the size of a tennis ball . do this over the season , short rows, sow thin and your away. By the way, don't cut the tops off, twist them off then they won't bleed. You still have time to plant another row or two should you wish.

cheers grandpajack. South Yorks.

Either short of water or the very hot weather in April followed by a cold spell has confused them.
