This is 2 questions in 1. I am cutting back my Knautia Macedonica Melton Pastels and wondering what I can put in their place, as I have a big gap in my border. And my second question is how can I stop them from toppling over when they are in bloom. I have staked them with one of the metal stakes this year but to no avail.
Thanks

I would plant sturdy perennials next to them so that they can just flop about among the stronger plants. IThey are my favourites! i have then next to the Golden Oat grass, daylillies, persicaria red dragon, crocosmia and roses.

...or use twiggy sticks to gently suport them. These are best put in before they grow large enough to flop. But who remembers to do that?!!
