There's a white mould on top of the compost what is it?

Plant compost will eventually start to decompose (like the stuff in a compost heap) so I would suggest that you repot the plant into fresh compost in spring, or if it's too large to attempt this, scrape off the top inch of compost and replace with new compost. A mulch of grit will keep the surface looking good too.
