My Brussels are growing well but i have discovered what looks like callouses on the plants stalks just above ground level. I would appreciate any comments

Any chance of a picture, Billt? Corky brown patches are normal once the stalk reaches a certain size. Cauliflower curd shaped tumors are a sign of a contagious plant bacterium called crown gall.
