I have a rowan tree I got three years ago, its now about 8ft tall the trunk is very close to the ground and Im wondering when that part is going to grow or do I prune the bottom growth to encourage it to grow? also so far I have had no berries or flowers I am wondering if there is a male and female tree and only one of them gets berries does anyone know?

Do you happen to know which Rowan it is? And how high is the trunk before the branches start? You can always remove the lower branches to raise the canopy but wait until late autumn to do. Three years is young for flowering and fruiting, they are normally self fertile.

Remember that tree trunks never grow in length, only in girth. The way to get a taller trunk is to remove lower branches.
