Hi Harli
No you are not alone! You have quite a number of your fellow Americans on site - Mikec (Mass), Talljim (Minn) ,Crazyfl (Fl) to name but a few. You also have some mad Canadians in here too.
I myself am a Scot now living in the South of France. If you look up the medieval citadel of Carcassonne you'll see some of the area we live in.
It's great being able to speak to people from all over the world about their plants. It's the different common names for them that throw me until you see a pic and go ahhhhhh I do know that one.
Mt Rainier looks fantastic!! What a sight to be able to admire everyday. Enjoy

Hallo Harli - Lovely to meet you - I had relatives who lived in your area, my Mum's brother and his family. My Mum went out and stayed over there for several weeks some years ago and loved your scenery! Great views you have! You can still enjoy Nature can't you, even if you are not a gardener. Do you grow interesting plants in your yard? Even if you don't know their names at the moment you will learn about them gradually,

We're in sunny Bournemouth, Dorset, UK. We're on the south coast of England. The weather has been very wet and windy in the last few days and minor structural damage to buildings. We're quite sheltered here and our gardening skills are quite new. We can grow palm trees and other exotics as it doesn't get very, very cold here compared to the north of the country. Today my darling husband emptied most of the water from the pond onto the lawn, to replenish the pond with fresh water, needless to say the garden is too wet to walk on. We find that after giving the lawn and soaking with old pond water, the grass grows lovely and green. I have just planted some seeds and the house is currently littered with seed trays and pots on every available surface. I'm addicted to growing stuff but not always the space in the garden for it. I love this website, if you have a question about plants and gardening, this is the place to find the answer.

I live in Herefordshire. It's famous for the red-coated, white-faced cattle and cider making and the oldest map of the world in the world housed in the Cathedral called the Mappa Mundi. Hereford is a small English city near the border of Wales and Herefordshire is one of the most rural counties in Britain. I live near the River Wye, which is a big, wide, meandering salmon river. It is calm most of the time, but is a bit of a raging torrant at the mo! The Wye has carved a big, wide, flat flood plain out of the hills which is known as The Golden Valley because wheat and barley grows well there. The local soil is dark red and rich and one of the main crops traditionally has been cider apples, some areas in spring are full of apple blossom and the landscape is of a patchwork of verdent green rolling meadows, red earth and broadleaf woodlands carpeted by bluebells, with the river shining in the valley bottom. I've travelled quite a bit in my life, but I happen to think that Herefordshire is the most beautiful place on earth, but I suppose we all think that way about the places we call home!

That is an awesome picture.

I grow plants in Sequim, WA. Imagine my surprise when a former customer of mine made a comment on some of my stuff.

This Pt. Townsend gardener, knows all the old friends I had lost touch with. It was a wonderful Hello! Catfinch

As a former Vancouverite (the B.C.) one I was glad to find Gilli, a British Columbian living E. of Vancouver. So far not one from the city of Vancouver or for that matter Victoria, which is just across the Strait from me.

"WE LIVE AT THE BASE SO GET THERE A LOT." I sure hope you can run fast when that sucker gets lively. I suspect Mt. Baker might be the first.
